Stardate..........2009

April 27th
Our georgeous girl, Ch. Watersedge Tru Destiny (IID) (Jaana), is still very overcome with grief.

She has been "whispered" and hopefully her grieving will pass in time. Thank you Dr Kathy from Animal Options for all of the time and compassion that you showed to Jaana today.

Jaana has "expressed" a desire to become a mother again as soon as possible. We will be looking forward to a litter from Jaana later this year when the time is right.

She is still waiting in the whelping box for the puppies to arrive as she has also seen puppies brought home in the esky and is questioning why I haven't given the puppies to her. It will be a slow process for all of us to come to terms with this loss.

In the meantime we will have to content ourselves with the knowledge that there will be an upcoming Finnish Lapphund litter from Jaana's sister - Ch. Watersedge Tru Colours (IID) (Katja).

Our rollercoaster ride continues.....

It is heart-rending to say that the litter of Finnish Lapphund puppies that has been so eagerly anticipated from Ch. Watersedge Tru Destiny (IID) (Jaana) has had a tragic ending.

Jaana developed difficulties late last night and had to be rushed to Animal Emergency Services. Heartbreakingly, Jaana was assisted by the team of vets to give birth to her only puppy - a perfect little girl - who had passed away when her placenta detached.

Jaana was greeted on her return home by the "welcoming committee". The girls all seem to know that sometimes a trip to the vet is necessary around whelping time. They were all fussing over Jaana but there was also questioning glances as to where was the usual accompanying esky full of puppies. It was a very, very sad moment.

Jaana is very traumatised and we are stunned and saddened for her. She was so looking forward to this litter of babies, as were we.

Of course we are looking for reasons why this has happened and there are none.

We have had two more "guests" arrive who will be staying several weeks.

Watersedge Evening Shadow, the most delightful little black girl from Ch. Watersedge Evening Star's (Evie) litter, October last year, has come to visit whilst her human parents have taken an overseas sabbatical. She is an absolute treasure and Evie is very happy to be united with her baby girl.

Our other guest has come to visit for a romantic interlude. Watch this space for more information on that front!

The Finnish Lapphunds at Watersedge were successful in scoring another trifecta with 3 more qualifying for their Herding Instinct Certificates (HIC).

Passes to the next level were gained by Ch. Watersedge Tru Diamond (IID) (Sylvi), Watersedge Tiger Lily (Heidi) and Watersedge Sno Lily (Lylli).

I was very happy to see the girls having some fun doing what the Herding breeds do - especially with Lylli's squeals of delight!

Photos of the weekend, compliments of Cyeana and Peter Wong and Dave McGuiness are now in the gallery.

Our visitor is finally on his way. We have had to check Ric's panniers for stow away Finnish Lapphunds!

During another day of torrential downpour which has inundated Southeast Queensland in the last few days, we have had a visitor arrive. All the way from WA, Ric Foote, human father of Watersedge Tru Magic (Zana) has dropped in for a fix of Finnish Lapphunds on his way around Australia.

All of the dogs - Finnish Lapphunds and Australian Kelpies have been very pleased to welcome their very own visitor - one who loves cuddles and doesn't mind a bit of mud!

Also, a very big congratulations to Watersedge Unique Design (Ziggy) and his owner/handler Corinne Chandler for today, Ziggy was awarded his very first Australian Kelpie Best of Breed. This is only his second show where he is eligible for points towards his Australian Champion title.

Woo hoo Ziggy!!
